Membership Certificate and Identification Card:
Members receive a PIAI membership certificate and Identification Card. This demonstrates proof of experience and professionalism to potential clients.
Idaho Private Investigator Certification Program:
Members are eligible to take the Idaho Certified Private Investigator Certification Exam. Certification as a Certified Private Investigator demonstrates accreditation in the Private Investigative Industry in Idaho. Certification provides use of the CPI logo and post nominals CPI.
PIAI Membership Information & Requirements
The Private Investigators Association of Idaho (PIAI) offers three categories of membership. All membership applications are subject to review and approval by the PIAI Board of Directors. Applicants are also required to pass a background check, there is a $50 non-refundable fee for the background check which is due at the time of application.
To apply for PIAI membership, please download and complete the PIAI Membership Application. Once completed, email your application to [email protected] and submit the required $50 non-refundable background check fee using the “Pay Now” button on this page.

All applications will be reviewed by the PIAI Board of Directors. Following Board review, the applicant will be notified regarding approval status, membership registration, and membership dues payment.
Active Membership
$100/year
An Active Membership includes individuals and business entities currently registered as a Private Investigator in the state of Idaho. Applicant must provide a copy of an Idaho business license or applicable Idaho business documentation, proof of at least 250 hours of verifiable work experience as a private investigator. (Active or retired Military & Law Enforcement with verifiable investigative experience enjoy a 50% reduction to 125 verifiable hours of private Investigation experience, subject to PIAI Board approval). Active Members must carry General Liability insurance (minimum $500,000) whether an owner/operator or employed by an investigative service company and pass the non-refundable background check.
Associate Membership
$75/year
An Associate Membership includes individuals, business entities, and state associations in the private investigations field or related industry. The Associate member category also honors retired private investigators and supporters of the Private Investigators Association of Idaho. This membership category is not restricted to Idaho-registered businesses. Applicants must pass the non-refundable background check.
Entry & Student Membership
$50/year
An Entry& Student Membership includes those actively pursuing a Private Investigations career and/or currently enrolled in education courses (online or onsite). This membership category is not restricted to Idaho-registered businesses. Applicants must pass the non-refundable background check.
