The Private Investigators Association of Idaho (PIAI) was founded in 2007. The mission and purpose of the PIAI is to provide support to those who wish to enter the field of private investigations, to be a positive asset to investigators who already have agencies,  to bring Idaho’s private investigators together to assist each other within the investigative industry and to provide the public seeking professional private investigators, a reliable source to secure assistance with their private investigation needs.

In 2015 PIAI developed the Certified Private Investigator Certification Program (CPI) to provide accreditation and solid credibility to the PI's who wished to enter the program.  The program is very successful and is now recognized nationwide.

In 2019, the PIAI introduced a formal education and training program for the benefit the PIAI membership and the Private Investigation Industry at large.

In 2020, the PIAI Board of Directors created a task force to increase the proficiency of the Certified Private Investigators Certification Program and further establish the CPI exam as a premier Certification Exam for private investigators.

Through the years, PIAI has been featured in PI Magazine and has excelled in its role as a trusted public resource. Today the PIAI enjoys a dedicated membership which cultivates and expands it’s membership by providing continuing education opportunities, communications, and member discounts. The PIAI continually strives to provide the public with a Private Investigation Association to meet their needs as a  reliable and professional resource.
